Built from all the things that weren’t supposed to fit together.
MoJo JohnsonFounder & Executive Creative Director, MADMIXEDMEDIAFounder, Press Start Gaming Inc.
MoJo Johnson works at the intersection of creative technology, education, games, comics, music, storytelling, animation, and workforce development.
His career has moved between the classroom and the studio, teaching creative technology while simultaneously building the tools, stories, systems, and opportunities he wished more young creators had access to.
Games
Gaming wasn’t an add-on. It was the starting language.
Games taught MoJo that learning works differently when people can explore, fail, retry, build, and see progress.
That philosophy now runs through both his creative work and educational systems.
Music
Hip-hop taught another lesson: take influences. Flip them. Combine them. Make something new.
That philosophy is literally inside the name MADMIXEDMEDIA.
Different mediums aren’t supposed to stay in separate boxes.
Comics + storytelling
Original characters and worlds such as Spoomz, Ron Jambo, and Don’t Play Yourself are designed to move between formats rather than remain trapped in one.
A character can begin as a sketch, become a comic, move into animation, become interactive, enter a game, and eventually reach an audience.
The classroom
MoJo’s experience teaching creative technology shaped a simple rule: if a creative tool can’t survive real students using it, learning it, breaking it, remixing it, and making something unexpected with it, it isn’t finished.
The classroom isn’t separate from the creative process. It is one of the places the process gets tested.
Creative technology
Game engines, character creation, animation, AI-assisted workflows, interactive media, virtual production, and browser-based creative tools are not treated as isolated technologies.
They are pieces of one larger creator pipeline.
- Idea
- Create
- Build
- Publish
- Opportunity
Instead of separating those worlds, he connected them.
- Games influence the learning.
- Hip-hop influences the way ideas are sampled, remixed, and transformed.
- Comics influence the storytelling.
- Production influences the workflow.
- Teaching keeps everything grounded in what real creators and students can actually use.
- And technology connects it all.
